To create what it does, Hollywood has to draw young people, often of unstable temperament, from all over the world. It plunges them into exacting work—surrounds them with a sensuous life—and cuts them off from the normal sources of living.
— Max Lerner, America as a Civilization
Mankind are, in all ages, caught by the same baits: The same tricks, played over and over again, still trepan them. The heights of popularity and patriotism are still the beaten road to power and tyranny; flattery to treachery; standing armies to arbitrary government; and the glory of God to the temporal interest of the clergy.

“I’ve no idea when I’m going to wear it,” the girl replied calmly. “I only knew that I had to have it. Once I tried it on, well…” She shrugged. “The dress claimed me.”

– Rep. John Lewis
Ich würde nur an einen Gott glauben, der zu tanzen verstünde.
― Friedrich Nietzsche, Also Sprach Zarathustra
We sit around staring at the wall-to-wall
Take field trips to our favorite mall
Waiting for the day when all the kids grow up and leave us here

LEFOU: No beast alive stands a chance against you. —And no girl, for that matter.
GASTON: It’s true, Lefou. And I’ve got my sights set on that one.
LEFOU: The inventor’s daughter?
GASTON: She’s the one – the lucky girl I’m going to marry.
LEFOU: But she’s –
GASTON: The most beautiful girl in town.
LEFOU: I know, but –
GASTON: That makes her the best. And don’t I deserve the best?

I think we need to get all of that information before we prejudge anything.
― House Speaker Paul Ryan
I think the early days of this administration are going to be described in the history books as days of action. And the American people welcome the decisiveness that President Trump has shown on this issue, putting the safety and secretary of the American people above the niceties of communicating with people in Washington or in some cases around the world. He acted. He put the safety of the American people first. And I think this, that’s the kind of leadership the American people want to see.
